Each Toucay takes approximately 39 hours of work, the Beak alone is a modern marvel, it is hand polished to give it the distinct translucency that you see in the pictures, it is a warm glow and well worth the 14 hours of hand polishing that it takes. The only part that is not made by hand is the lamp cord, though we would love to make that also, we deferred to safety and went with a UL listed cord, the bulb is an easily found and replaceable C7 bulb (It is LED and ought to last until your Kids graduate college, if not much longer, one is included!)
Toucay is our own spin on The Toucan Lamp that was designed by Enea Ferrari for Old Timer Ferrari in 1970. It was designed and produced in Italy. The Toucan Lamp is widely recognized as the world’s first children’s lamp made of plastic.
Remember, all Toucays are handmade and and as such, colors will vary slightly (Though the major color groups will be as you see, but the hand polishing process causes the shades to be slightly different between each precious Toucay!)
